The third inning of Ken Burns nine-inning documentary leads us into the Roaring 20s, but not before hitting the sports stumbling block that was the Black Sox World Series scandal of 1919. Charles Comiskys stingy handling of the Chicago White Sox, who would eventually throw the series against the Reds, was tempered by the success of the Athletics under Connie Mack. Kenesaw Mountain Landis became baseballs first Commissioner, making headlines both by banning the Black Sox for life, and by approving the sale of George H. Ruth from the Red Sox to the Yankees for 125,000 dollars. The dark cloud of scandal was about to be cleared away by a new hero. ~ Katie Tamms, All Movie Guide
