A former Los Angeles cop is relegated to watching over the tiny town of Paradise, Massachusetts in this prequel to the highly rated made for television movie Stone Cold (2005). Adapted from the writings of author Robert B. Parker, Jesse Stone: Night Passage explores disgraced transplant cop Jesse Stone (Tom Selleck)s attempt to adjust to live in New England after being booted from the L.A.P.D. for drinking on the job. Taken slightly aback when he shows up slightly tipsy for his interview and is instantly championed by powerhouse Paradise businessman Hasty Hathaway (Saul Rubinek), new arrival Stone grows downright suspicious when his predecessor is discovered dead shortly thereafter. While he may have a bit of a drinking problem Stones observational skills are still leagues sharper than most teetotalers, and later, between melancholy midnight conversations with his ex and a discreet affair with the City Attorney (Polly Shannon) the troubled lawman takes on an abusive husband while constantly keeping his ear to the ground to getter a better grip for the towns shady goings on. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
