Movie Summary
One of the most well-known and prolific composers of the classical period, Austrian-born Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) was internationally famous for works that spanned many forms -- from chamber music and cantatas to symphonies, operas, piano sonatas and concertos. Considered by many to be the father of both the symphony and the string quartet, Haydns development of both musical forms helped provide the basis for the fuller structures of Beethoven and other composers who would follow. This video explores the career and compositions of a classical master and includes a look at some of his major works, with excerpts performed by the Elysian Ensemble. ~ Katie Tamms, All Movie Guide
